TMP Develops a Specialized, 600-Ton Circuit Board Lamination Press
TMP, A Division of French introduces a custom-engineered and manufactured 600-ton lamination press for specialized circuit boards used in both military and communication applications. The press includes unique high-pressure and high-temperature designs and features required for such specialized product applications. In combination with slow programmable cooling and uniform temperature capabilities, the press provides essential control parameters for high-end materials. Designed with rugged, low-deflection characteristics the press yields uniform board thickness, consistent molding performance and dielectric properties.
The 850°F high-temperature package allows the fusion of various polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) based materials. Custom multi-zone platens and integrated cooling passages prevent material warping at elevated temperatures and include a specialized plating to eliminate oxidation at high temperatures. These platens are manufactured with a hardened working surface to prevent wear and reduce routine maintenance costs. The temperature package provides programmable heating and cooling rates that are accurate to 1°F per minute. The press’s hydraulic circuit features a quiet operation-pumping unit and full-scale calibrated force accuracy.
TMP’s exclusive Edge II Advanced Control System allows for flexibility in the molder’s process. Designed for close tolerances with small allowable variations, using several parameters, the system provides real-time data collection and storage required for many mission-critical applications and other customer-specific requirements. Selectable cycles allow variations of ramp rates for pressure and temperature (both heating and cooling). The cooling system utilizes a VFD motor and customized processing program loops for precise programmable cooling rates, which is critical in maintaining homogeneous material properties.
To further maximize production utilization, the lamination press system includes a conveyor system and loading /unloading automation to assist in the layup assembly and to provide consistent throughput in the molding operation, increasing overall profit by reducing process variations.
