French engineered and built this 2000 ton press system for molding large‑diameter seals used in oil and gas operations. The two‑press configuration was designed to deliver unmatched strength, reliability, and precision while fitting seamlessly into the customer’s production layout.
Advanced Hydraulic Press System Design
Each hydraulic press system uses a sideplate construction with French’s patented tapered keys. This design extends the life of critical components—including the headblock, sideplates, and main cylinder. The rigid frame minimizes deflection and applies pressure using an up‑acting cylinder for consistent, repeatable performance.
Intelligent Control and Operation Efficiency
The hydraulic press system features an Allen‑Bradley programmable controller paired with a color touchscreen operator interface. The standard configuration monitors critical sequence stages such as close, clamp, bump, dwell, and open.
For advanced manufacturing environments, the system can be equipped with an integrated PC‑based data collection package. This software allows operators to create and store press recipes, capture and review historical data, display performance graphs, and generate production reports. These tools help improve quality control and process traceability.
High‑Performance Heating and Temperature Uniformity
Each press in the 2000 ton press system includes two steam‑heated platens, 2.5 inches thick and 64 inches square, capable of reaching 350ºF. Multiple heating channels with 1‑inch NPT inlets and outlets ensure uniform temperature distribution. To further enhance thermal efficiency, thick insulation separates the platens from the press base, allowing precise temperature control and consistent part quality.
Space‑Saving and Energy‑Saving Solutions
To accommodate space constraints at the customer’s facility, French engineers developed a compact hydraulic press system featuring a central hydraulic unit and shared reservoir. In addition, a small hold‑pump motor group sustains clamp tonnage pressure throughout the cure cycle. When clamping force is stable, the main motor and pump automatically power down—delivering significant energy savings and reducing machine wear.
