French Oil Mill Machinery Company is pleased to be honored as the first place winner in the Exporting Category of the second annual Dayton Business Journal Manufacturing Awards held at the Schuster Center on October 9, 2014 in downtown Dayton.
Though not new to exporting, a recent surge in export sales has allowed us to create almost 50 additional manufacturing-related jobs in Piqua, Ohio in the last three years. Exports, recently shipping to Canada, China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, India, South America, the Middle East and Russia, among other countries, currently account for about 65% of our total business. French initially been exporting equipment in 1905 and has shipped hydraulic presses, screw presses and other processing equipment to over 80 countries worldwide.
French recognizes the importance of local manufacturing and exporting to our local community and we are committed to maintaining the majority of our sales and manufacturing operations in Ohio. According to the Dayton Region Manufacturers Association, manufacturing contributes $4.7 billion in annual payroll to the Dayton region, with more than 100,000 employees and $32 billion in annual sales.
In order to support our sales strategy, French sales, engineering, management and service teams frequently travel internationally to visit customers. In addition, we host numerous customer visits in Piqua. Naturally, when customers come to Piqua they bring additional revenues to various hotels, restaurants and other local businesses, supporting DRMA’s findings that each local manufacturing job creates nearly three more jobs in other sectors.
French’s exporting achievements were also recognized in May 2012 when we received the Presidential “E” Star Award for Exports. The “E” Awards are the highest recognition any U.S. entity may receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports.
