The Purchasing Agent is responsible for procuring raw materials, components, and outsourced services to support manufacturing operations. This role works closely with suppliers and internal teams to ensure materials are delivered on time, meet quality standards, and are obtained at competitive cost. The ideal candidate will actively seek new vendors, negotiate effectively, and contribute to overall cost savings and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
Source and procure raw materials, components, and outsourced machining services
Identify, evaluate, and develop new vendors to improve cost, quality, and delivery
Negotiate pricing, terms, and lead times with suppliers
Maintain strong supplier relationships and resolve quality or delivery issues
Generate and manage purchase orders, RFQs, and vendor data in the ERP system
Expedite materials and coordinate deliveries to support production schedules
Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation
Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Production, and Manufacturing to align priorities
Qualifications
3–5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing job shop environment
Experience sourcing machined components, raw materials, castings, or fabricated parts
Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
Familiarity with ERP and inventory management systems
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Effective communication skills
Preferred:
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field
