The 125 Ton Vacuum Lamination Press

In our previous blog post, we featured a 140 Ton Vacuum Hot Press. This post discusses its cousin—a new 125 Ton Vacuum Lamination Press. While these heavy-duty machines share certain characteristics and qualities, they still serve different purposes and provide unique utility.

The press features:

  • Vacuum chamber – The vacuum chamber utilizes a side plate design with a vertically articulated powered vacuum door on the front of the press, and a hinged manual vacuum door on the rear of the press. Together, these form the vacuum chamber, which is capable of evacuating the chamber to  ~29” Hg. This is designed to remove entrapped air and volatiles from the various layers of material before they are laminated and results in the ability to laminate higher count circuits with tighter registration.
  • Platens – The press’ platens are electrically heated with cooling passages. They’re designed to be extra thick with three heat zones per platen for heat uniformity within +/-15F on the surface of the press. Its insulatory configuration is optimal for temperatures as high as 800°F.
  • Air & Water Cooling System – The lamination press boasts a three-stage platen cooling system that uses air, mist, and water cooling media. Each platen has its own air and water valve, allowing customizable and independent ramp rates for each platen:
      • Air cooling above 500°F with an average cooling rate of 1-3°F/minute
      • Mist cooling between 500°F and 250°F with an average cooling rate of  1-6°F/minute
      • Water cooling below 250°F with an average cooling rate of 1-12°F/minute
  • Allen Bradley PLC Controls – The press controls have been field-tested and industrial-hardened. They utilize Allen-Bradley Micrologix PLC with Ethernet connectivity for remote support. This includes:
      • User-friendly interface screen
      • Push button operations
      • Thermocouple temperature monitoring
      • 10 Segment Recipe Control

Benefits of this 125 Ton Vacuum Lamination Press

Our heavy-duty vacuum lamination hot press provides several tangible benefits, including:

  • High-temperature capability – The press has max temperature capabilities up to 800°F with multiple zone control to ensure optimal temperature uniformity across the platen.
  • Lower overall footprint – Between the height reductions and the self-contained electric cartridge heaters, the press’ overall footprint is much less expansive. Furthermore, it doesn’t rely on secondary heat sources, saving you even more space.
  • Even pressure distribution – The design ensures even pressure distribution across the entire working area. This creates the following advantages:
      • Improved registration
      • Less shifting of inner layers
      • Increased board flatness
      • Higher yields
  • Flexible recipe control – Thanks to the independent temperature and pressure setpoint controls in each segment, you can perform an array of activities. In addition, each unique recipe can be programmed and saved for later cycles.
