Magnet
Drum-type magnets are recommended at the beginning of the process. They remove any foreign material made of metal to prevent damage to the downstream equipment. Material enters the top of the unit and flows across the side of the rotating drum. Then, it discharges out the bottom of the unit. A stationary magnet inside the material side of the drum attracts the metal from the material stream and rotates the metal to the other side of the drum where there is no magnet. The metal is released and drops through a chute.

Cleaner
If the seed, beans, or nuts have not been pre-cleaned, a cleaner is provided to remove foreign material. Larger foreign material passes over the top screen and exits the cleaner. The material and smaller foreign material passes through the top screen. The material then passes over the bottom screen and exits the cleaner. Small foreign material passes through the bottom screen and exits the cleaner. We find it important to provide a cleaner to remove foreign materials if the seed, bean, or nut needs cleaned.

Rate Bin
A French rate bin, also called a recycle bin, receives whole seeds from the drum magnet and cleaner. The bin provides a steady and homogeneous flow of feed material. It allows for continued operation of the downstream process machinery. In addition, the rate receives feed overflow from the conditioner feed conveyor(s). French rate bins include a fabricated hopper with a variable speed discharge screw conveyor.

Cake Cooler
Press cake produced in the full press extraction system is hot when it exits the press. It requires cooling prior to grinding and storage. French provides cake coolers to cool the press cake to 20°F above ambient temperature.

Oil Settling Tank
French Oil Settling Tanks are supplied with one to three settling chambers for separating foots.
For smaller capacity processing plants, oil settling tanks with one chamber are supplied. The oil, with foots, enters the tank chamber for a minimum of 1 hour, during which most of the foots in the oil settle to the bottom of the chamber. The chamber has two malleable iron chains with a series of paddle scrappers that slowly rotate along the bottom of the chamber to collect the settled foots, lift them up, pull them over a wedgewire screen that serves as a non-clogging drainboard, then drop them into a foots discharge conveyor that returns them to the conditioner or screw press feed system. The settled oil overflows from the chamber into a side holding chamber and is pumped from the tank.
Larger capacity plants are supplied with larger oil settling tanks with two to three chambers. On these tanks, when the first chamber fills with oil, the oil overflows into a second chamber, and in our larger tanks into a third chamber. Each of these chambers has two malleable iron chains with a series of paddle scrappers that slowly rotate along the bottom of the chamber to pick up the foots and convey them to the foots discharge conveyor. The amount of foots in the oil is reduced in each chamber until the oil flows to the side holding chamber and is pumped from the tank.

Oil Filter
When the oil is extracted in the full press extraction process or preparation process, a small amount of solids are expelled with the oil. Oil filtration equipment is supplied in the process to remove these solids from the oil. For smaller capacity plants, oil settling tanks are provided to remove the larger particles of solids. The oil is then pumped to a pressure leaf filter to remove the smaller solid particles. For larger capacity plants, a decanter is typically supplied to centrifugally separate the solids. The solids removed from the oil is conveyed back into the system, mixed with the material and recycled through the conditioner and screw press.
